What is your longest drive in competition?
422 yards in 2015 World Long Drive Championships
What were the conditions of the drive?
Under lights at WinStar World Casino and Resort in Round 7 of WLDC. Needed over 400 to advance. Grid was soft. Slight cross wind.
What are the fastest swing speeds you’ve recorded on a Swing Speed Radar and/or Trackman?
Fastest swing speed on TrackMan® 141 mph.
What lead you to choose your particular equipment specifications?
The Geek heads really keep the spin off the ball compared to some other heads. In Europe, generally the guys that control the spin the best will win. Plus, the Geek head look and sound great. I love the Pat Dempsey shaft. The low torque really helps me control the club face.
Do you favor a particular shot shape to hit it long?
Straight is obviously the longest ball flight so I always try and hit it as straight as I can. Curve kills distance. But if there is a wind I tend to shape the ball with the wind.
Do you use any training aids to work on your speed and power?
I have a few home-made things I use to keep my speed up but mainly I hit balls. There is no better training than to actually get on the range and swing as fast as possible.
Do you do any other types of training to drive it further?
I go to the gym occasionally but it not really my thing. I find it boring. My training is pretty much all done on the range working on ball flights and swing. I’m not the fastest guy out here but I think I have a chance if my balls flight is good.
Is there any particular bit of advice you would give the regular amateur for him or her to hit the ball longer?
Maximize what you have. In other words, it’s really hard to add speed to your swing but maximizing launch conditions is easy. Hit the middle of the driver, keep the spin down, launch it higher and hit it straight! Any good The PGA pro will help amateurs achieve this.
Also, get the correct equipment. Driver loft and shaft are very important.
